Defunct Company Data Partnership

Your closed company’s old files may be worth money.

micro1 runs a program just for companies that are no longer operating. If yours had 50 or more employees and you still have its records, it may qualify.

Up front: I’m Lars, an independent referral partner for micro1. If you apply through this page and a deal closes, micro1 pays me a referral fee. It does not come out of what you would receive, and I never see your files.

What’s going on

On October 9, 2026, micro1 announced it will spend $1 billion over the next year licensing records from real businesses, with financing from Citi and Hercules Capital.

AI systems have already read the public internet. What they haven’t seen is how work actually gets done inside a company. Your old procedures, project files and internal emails show exactly that.

Closed companies are a big part of this. When Spirit Airlines went bankrupt, Google agreed to pay $10 million for its business records and micro1 bid $12.5 million.

How it works

  1. Fill out the short form

It takes a few minutes and commits you to nothing.

  2. micro1 reviews it

If your records are a fit, they send you a quote.

  3. You decide

Say yes and you work directly with micro1. Your files go to them, not to me.

You’re likely a fit if

  • The company had 50 or more employees while it was operating
  • It’s no longer operating, and it ran long enough to build real procedures and history
  • It was based in one of these countries:
    United StatesUnited KingdomCanadaIndiaAustraliaSingaporeIrelandNetherlandsGermanyFrance
  • Its records are mostly in English, in any industry
  • You still have access to the old files: email, Google Drive, Slack, your CRM

What they’re looking for

Procedures and training

SOPs, playbooks, onboarding guides, internal wikis

Project history

How jobs were scoped, what went wrong, how it got fixed

Customer and sales records

CRM data, deal notes, the reasons you won or lost work

Internal communication

Email, Slack and support tickets that show the day-to-day

micro1 works with de-identified data, so personal details about customers and employees are removed.

One thing to check first

If your company went through bankruptcy, you probably can’t do this. In a bankruptcy, the records usually belong to the bankruptcy estate, not to you.

If you closed the company yourself and kept the files, you’re in the clear case. If you’re not sure who owns the records now, ask whoever handled your wind-down before you apply.

Know who controls the records now? If you can introduce me to whoever handles a bankrupt company’s records, like the trustee or the attorney on the case, and that company joins, I’ll pay you 25% of my referral fee.

What’s it worth?

micro1 advertises $100,000 to more than $2 million for approved companies. That is their published range, not a promise.

Every deal is priced individually and many companies won’t qualify. I won’t guess at a number for you. The only way to know is to apply and see what they say.

Common questions

Is this legitimate?

Yes. micro1 is a venture-backed AI company in San Francisco, and its $1 billion data program was announced publicly and covered in the press. Applying is free, and you don’t agree to anything until you’ve seen a quote.

Does it cost me anything?

No. If a deal happens, micro1 pays you, and separately pays me a referral fee.

Do you see my files?

No. Everything goes directly between you and micro1. I only make the introduction.

What about my old employees’ and customers’ privacy?

micro1 works with de-identified data, so names and personal details are removed. If you had contracts that promised confidentiality, check those before you apply.

Who are you?

I’m Lars. I run Ctrl Chaos Consulting, a small consultancy in Utah. I’m a referral partner for this program, reaching out to former owners who may not know it exists.

Know a company that fits?

If you know an owner who qualifies, or the person who now controls a closed company’s records, introduce us. If their company joins, I’ll pay you 25% of the referral fee micro1 pays me.

Email me at before they apply so the intro is on record. Paid once micro1 pays me.
